The uncompromising stance

Noticeable at first glance

Had my hackles go up

As I prepared for a blowup

Thought I knew the answer

I asked him as the master

He surprised me and said

It was good, I’d obviously misread

The taught line of his face

Astounded, I had the grace

To face him down because

It was me, and who I was

I questioned everything

I was no one’s plaything

I wanted perfection, to do it right

And walked on into the night

Realizing I was good enough

Confident I had the right stuff

I’d take center stage on my mark

Determined I’d smash it out of the ballpark
