Provoke

Provoke

It hadn’t been his intent to provoke

Rather, he’d hoped he’d invoke

A smidge of humour into her day

If possible, to partially allay

Concern and worry she carried

Hidden and subtle yet harried

To anyone observant enough

To look beyond her makeup

Into those beautiful eyes wary

Reflective and so extraordinary

She paused mid-step and turned

Her eyes flickered concerned

As a smile touched her lips

Managing to totally eclipse

The unease she truly felt

Conveying real and heartfelt

Appreciation that in hindsight

Meant worlds on this night of nights
