“I love that idea, Shawna, brilliant!  We can keep tabs on who comes and goes and if we turn it into a game…”

It only took a few minutes to organize the till and receipt books for the day.  Shawna made herself comfortable in front of the computer and began reading, “Wow you have dozens of emails.  Never knew you were so popular,” she quipped.  Looking across her shoulder she called out, “Who is your mystery lover?”

“What are you talking about?”  Cassy answered.

“You have at least a dozen emails from a guy calling himself ‘mystery man’; just wanted to ask before I opened them in case they are you know, personal.”

“Open them.  I don’t know any mystery man and this is a working computer.  I use my laptop at home for personal stuff.” she replied from the bathroom.

“You’d better come look at this.  It’s weird Cassy.”

Cassy carefully made her way to Shawna.  “Ok, what’s up?”

“Look at this!  Sick if you ask me!”

Cassy had Shawna read her several of the emails and she was stunned.  Each entry was more disturbing than the last.  “Ok, ok, that’s enough.  I don’t want to read any more.”

“I think you should call the police and have them deal with this.”  Turning to look Cassy in the face she added, “This is more than weird, it’s truly sick.  I don’t even know what to call this.”  She gestured wildly at the computer.

“My thoughts exactly.  I don’t get it.  I’ve never seen anything like this.  It’s like something out of a made for tv movie!”  That said, she picked up the phone and dialed the local detachment of the RCMP and explained the situation.  She’d been assured an officer would arrive shortly and have a look.  Cassy got the impression the woman wasn’t particularly concerned.  Hopefully whoever they sent could give her advice on how to handle whatever this was.

They’d finished rearranging clothes and adding new arrivals when a handsome young man hurried through the door.  When he reached the counter he said, “I’m looking for Cassandra Jeffreys.”

Shawna smiled appreciatively at the tall handsome man, “Hi, I’m Shawna.  I’ll get her.  She’s in the back.”

Hustling to Cassy’s side she said, “I think the cop is here.  He’s handsome too!” she added a hubbahubba hand shake.

After introducing herself, Cassy suggested he peruse the emails himself since words couldn’t describe what they’d seen and definitely carried more impact than hearing alone. […]
