Together they powered through breakfast and hustled to work. Before parting at the front door Brenda kissed Vance with verve. The look in his eyes indicated surprise and question. “Because!” Brenda replied.
“I like your because.” She smiled playfully.
At the in house meeting, Vance had his team bring him up to speed on current events noting nothing major at this point. Nodding he ended the meeting and walked with Emilio and Braxton to determine whether there was anything new on their end. They assured him they had their noses to the grind stone but it was slow going. Damara had certainly crossed her t’s and dotted her I’s. There were thousands of trails to follow, all dead ending so far.
“It’s obvious she’s had this plan in place for years,” Vance commented.
To which Emilio replied, “Yeah, seems so, meticulously. I’ve covered 1 ½ years so far and nothing pops as yet, but I know we’ll find it.”
“Good.” Vance sighed.
Braxton sat with coffee in hand. “Her cohort was responsible for much of this. I know she’s clever, but not clever enough for this. These actions required an expert, one who knew how to hide without creating friction or a bubble to alert anyone else.”
“I’m working on that.” Lowering his voice, he leaned in, “Add Angus Campbell to the mix.” Braxton’s eyes nearly bulged out of his head. “You don’t say!” Vance winked and walked to Emilio suggesting the same. As he walked away they glanced at one another and Emilio silently mouthed, “Shit!”
