Phase Shift Part 3 – Page 171

A subtle undercurrent permeated dinner and although they were overjoyed the case was closed, everyone felt it although no one spoke of it.  They cleared the dishes and Germaine took his leave.  “I can’t thank you enough for all you’ve done for me, Randal.  You are a true friend.  Sherry, I’m sorry I intruded on your privacy, interrupting your time with Randal.”

“You didn’t.  It was circumstances and I for one wouldn’t have it any other way.”  She reached out and hugged him tight.

“You have a wonderful woman, Randal, don’t let her go.”  Randal and Sherry exchanged glances.

“Ok, I’ll leave you in peace.”

“What you planning on doing, Randal?  Your old job is restored, you have your P.I. business, the world’s your oyster as far as choices go.”

“I need more time to think about it, but I’ll be in touch.”  As they walked to the door he added, “Don’t be a stranger, Germaine.  Keep in touch, will you?”

“Absolutely!  Wouldn’t have it any other way!”  They exchanged manly hugs complete with pats on the back and Germaine took his leave.

Sherry walked up to Randal, wrapping her arms around him to hold him close.  Her sigh was eloquent in its brevity.  Randal in turn held on firmly.  They stood together wrapped in each other’s arms for a considerable length of time without attempt at moving.

“Want to retire to the bedroom?”  Randal asked, quirking his eyebrows.

Brenda continued clearing up loose ends.  Her time here was short, and she was looking forward to returning to her own time and space and being with Vance.

Before she could finish something odd happened.  Staring at the report she jumped up knocking everything off the holo-desk.  “Shit!”
