"Recent thoughts on what ideology stands for or relates to suggests
ideology is a coherent system of ideas based on a few basic assumptions
about reality that may or may not have any factual basis.
Ideas become ideologies (or become coherent, repeated patterns)
through the subjective ongoing choices that people make, serving as the
seed around which further thought grows. Recent analysis suggests that
ideologies are neither necessarily right nor wrong and belief in ideology
ranges from passive acceptance through fervent advocacy to true belief."
This is paraphrased from Wikipedia by the way.
It makes sense of so much regarding political religious and other ideologies
and also explains why it's difficult to make meaningful changes.  By that (as
an example) you often hear a parent say "We read the New York Times" or
we are "Catholic" leaving no room for differing opinions ie ideology.  Their
thought pattern is routed in "this is how it is" and you follow our lead.
It must be incredibly difficult for the children of these parents to form their
own opinion about life and what they truly believe themselves.  "It was good
enough for my parents, it's good enough for me."  But is that the case?
I'm simply throwing this out there for consideration, as it's something I've
wondered and thought about for a long time especially since I'm not that type
of individual and I'm interested in how it's affected your thinking and
forming your own set of ideologies or way of living.
I'd love to hear from you so please, feel free to correspond.:)
