“Not as bad as it could have been. The fire started in the far corner of the property and burned a couple of dry trees, but fortunately, it was too damp to really get going.“

Harold took his wife’s hand and wrapped his arm around his daughter.  “Let’s go see if we can help Trent.  If nothing else, he may need moral support.”

“I feel so guilty for involving him in this, Dad.  I shouldn’t have.  At the very least I should have warned him in advance.”

“First of all, you suspected who was involved and what he was doing, but without proof, you can’t really do much. Secondly, Trent’s a strong man, and he can handle this.  It’s not your fault.”

“There was an attraction from the start and I’m sure knowing Trent he would have moved on it sooner or later.  At some point, he was going to be involved.”

By the time they arrived at Trent’s property, the fire was out.  As soon as he spotted them he walked toward them.  Maggy moved closer and asked, “What happened?”

“They figure arson.”

Maggy shivered, “Oh my god, Trent!” and covered her mouth with her hand.  “I was afraid of this…that something might happen.”

“Not on you, Maggy!“ he replied squeezing her hand firmly.  “It’s on at weirdo and no one else.”

“I feel so guilty though.  If I’d warned you… before involving you…”  she wrapped her arms around him and laid her forehead on his chest.

“No harm no foul.  Sides, I get an armful of woman, and I’m all good with that.”  He dropped a kiss on the top of her head.

Maggy stared up into his eyes.  “I like you,” she admitted, “and I don’t want any harm to come to you because of me.”

“I like you back!  I had more of a head start, I heard about your antics growing up and that prepared me, intrigued me, excited me too.”

“I may be a few steps behind you, but I’m getting there fast!”  she admitted.

“Trent, how bad was it?”  her dad asked staring at the carnage.

“Not as bad as it could have been.  The fire started in the far corner of the property and burned a couple of dry trees, but fortunately, it was too damp to really get going.“
